Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated country with poverty being widespread and the latest category 4 cyclone has not helped.

On 29 April 1991, powerful Cyclone SIDR hit the south east coast of Bangladesh with winds up to 155mph. The storm left 10 million homeless and killed nearly 140,000 people.

Once again, 15 November 2007, powerful Cyclone SIDR hits south coast of Bangladesh, with winds up to 240kph and tidal waves of 5 meter high surges and devastates many coastal towns. During the last few weeks the death toll has already reached 3500 mark and still rising at a rapid rate.

According to Direct Relief, it is estimated that over 3 million people are displaced with thousands dead and thousands injured or missing.

Families are now without shelter or food. Shortage of food, water and medicines will make diseases spread fast. There are dead bodies floating about and rotten trees are lying in many water sources, making the threat of disease even higher.

Children are now without families, a child in the affected area cries and says “The winds have taken my family and my home, no mother, no father, no brothers or sisters, I have no-one.. I have no-one”. It is hard for us to understand what this child is going through.

Towns are villages are without water or electricity. Government is trying hard to restore the communication network to allow aid agencies to reach all affected areas.

Our Appeal

Just Help Foundation is making an appeal to the whole of mankind, to help us save the millions who have been lucky enough to survive the storm but could die without food and shelter.

We have organised many events in the U.K. to raise money for the victims of the cyclone.

Since our appeal, 12 catering businesses have offered to help raise money for the Cyclone victims. On the 9th of December 2007 at 12:15pm, the mayor of Tamesside Metropolitan Borough Council along with Just Help Foundation trustee will receive their cheques. The event will be held at 48a Blandford Street, Ashton-Under-Lyne, Lancashire, OL6 7DW.

If any volunteers have raised money and wants to donate to Just Help Foundation, they can come along to the event and take part or deposit to the charity bank account. Anyone who has access to the intermet may also donate online.

We also plan to hold our biggest appeal LIVE on Bangla TV (SKY channel 786) from 7:30pm on Wednesday 5th December 2007. Please watch and donate as much as you can.

We are very grateful for your support. Please help us help the poor by making a donation to JUST HELP Foundation.
