Rickshaw for the poor..

Rickshaw for the poor..

Earning a living is very difficult for the poor. They are not educated so they cannot get a decent job and rely on others.

Some are lucky enough to travel to the cities and can manage to hire a rickshaw cycle to earn a living but even then after paying the rent it does not leave them with enough to run a family.

They will work all day just to make about taka 200 which is just £2 but some of it goes to the rental of the rickshaw.

To understand how much a poor person can earn pulling a rickshaw, here is a passage from an article on “Poor man’s life in Bangladesh” taken from Jordon news.net – dated 14th My 2007.

“Mohammed Babul Sikdar aged 25 is a young rickshaw puller who came to the city of Bangladesh from Mymensing district, to earn some money. He says “I came here about seven-eight years ago to earn my bread. On average, I earn taka 300 in a day. Out of this I give take 100 as rent to rickshaw owner ever day so I hardly save anything”. He has a small family with just his wife and finds it difficult to live on taka 300 so what chance does poor families with children have in succeeding.”

The cost of a new rickshaw is between taka 10,000 to 14,000 – beyond the reach of the millions who sweat for hours every day pulling the heavy load. For some of us, we earn 300 pounds weekly or even more so just 100 pounds is not much for us if it was bringing in income. For the more, they never can save taka 10,000 to buy a rickshaw.

Also remember that a rickshaw puller not working in the city earns much less than that, even half as much as the ones in the city. They are worse off as they cannot afford to rent a rickshaw to earn some money. Sometimes even the income from two men is not enough. It’s just about enough for daily needs.

What we plan to do…

This Rickshaw project is aimed for the extreme poor and needy who have no means on income. We plan to buy rickshaws for poor families so that they do not have to pay rent from they earnings. Also we plan to help towards the licensing cost of the rickshaw. We feel that renting it out to them will not get them out of poverty but will just put stress o the family.

The rickshaw can help in many ways;

- have regular income without the burden of the rent

- help transport family around without the cost of fares

- villagers have to travel a long way to do shopping or bring water, the rickshaw will make that easier

-very low maintenance, ideal for the poor

This is a great place to start to make the extreme poor become self-sufficient. Donate £150 for a rickshaw.

This is to allow them to cope with the daily needs. Our help, your help will go a long way to seeing the end to poverty.

Water Projects

Water Projects

“W for water… we can’t live without it.. can you? ”

Changes to water quality and availability impacts millions and millions of people around the world. Our aim is to allow the poorest communities in Asia and Africa to gain access to clean and safe water in the coming years.

Did you know..

* More than one billion people do not have access to clean water.
Source: ONE Campaign.

There are many types of water projects that can be undertaken by a charity. JUST Help Foundation wants to help put something in place that will give clean water to a whole area or a village and that is why it is focusing on the tube-well water project.
Tube-well for the poor

This is a project that take a lot of effort to put in place but it is very rewarding. It can help many people locally.

The tube-well project allows us to identify the most needed villagers and fund the build of a tube well. The build could cost anywhere between £150 to £200 but the number of lives it safes is worth greater.

If you cannot afford to donate the cost of a tube-well, you may donate as much as you can to go towards a tube-well.

Your help is required and much appreciated.

Education Project

Education Project

Education for the poor..

“I am so poor I have no money to send my children to school. I can barely feed them and have no regular income.”

This was the comment of a family in the developing county of Asia. He sees no future for the his children without education.

He is so right but he struggles to feed his family daily so educating the children is something he can dream of only.

Research shows that over 120 million children are too poor to go to school. We in developed countries take education and life for granted. We have the means and get our children educated, give them a great start to life and never see the reality of the poor. Is this not the right of every child in the world?

What we plan to do…

Every child needs basic education for a good start to life so our aim is to help the under-privileged children get that chance.

We aim to achieve this by providing materials to the poor children and schools in poor villages and help build educational centres for children. Materials for the poor children could be anything from pens/pencils/books and school bags.

Some villages do not have any educational centres so we do also aim to help build places of education that will be benefit for the children and the community. In addition to this we will provide free lunch for the poor children. We plan to help as much as we can.

We in the developed countries are so lucky and have everything provided by our parents, think of the poor children that do not have that chance.

Millions and millions of poor children require help for education so we plan to run this project with no end date. So please help us give these deprived children some hope and a life.

Mosquito net project

Mosquito net project

During the cold season we aim to distribute blankets to the poor. A simple blanket could save many lives. In our travels we have seen many without shelter or the basic needs for keeping warm. There are lots of people that need a simple blanket. We aim to distribute FREE blankets every year.

Donate £25 for 5 blankets which will help a family of five.

Mosquito net project

Mosquito is a killer as it causes malaria. Malaria is Africa’s biggest killer as well as many parts of Asia. A typical mosquito net can be shared by three to four children.

Did you know..

  • Globally, as estimated 1 million people die every year due to malaria.
    Source: Amref website May2007.
  • 10,000 pregnant women and 200,000 infants die each year as a result of malaria during pregnancy.
    Source: UNICEF 2007
  • Malaria is more common in poor and malnourished people, but spreads very quickly due to socio-economic status.
  • Malaria kills more people than AIDS.

A mosquito net is a good way forward to help stop being bitten by mosquito. The cheap and effective way to beat the mosquitos is to buy a nt. The cost of a mosquito is about  £10 but this amount is still far too much for a poor family.

We aim to provide mosquito nets to people who need it most in Asia and Africa.

Please DONATE £10 for a pair of mosquito nets and help us fight malaria. A single net can help save up to four children from malaria.

Much more to come…

As time and funding allows, we aim to have as many smaller projects like these which will help millions of people.
